What Are Residential and Commercial Films?

These films are specifically designed and manufactured to go on flat pieces of glass — windows in homes or commercial buildings. Most SuperTint flat-glass films are made of two layers of polyester with one or more micro-thin layers of metal between them; clear films have no metallic layer. The type and amount of metal used determines the colour and reflectivity of the film. Some films have a layer of metal between the layers of polyester. In some films, one or both layers of the polyester film may be dyed.

What Types of Residential and Commercial Films Are Available?

There are five basic types of residential and commercial films:

  • Silver films are used where maximum heat rejection and/ or glare reduction are critical, and a reflective silver appearance is acceptable. The silver films give the most bang for your buck, but some people do not like the silver appearance.
  • Bronze films are used where heat rejection and/ or glare control are important but a silver appearance is not acceptable. These films look very good on buildings with brown trim or siding (such as cedar).
  • Neutral grey films are used where an unobtrusive appearance is important. The neutral colour goes with most exterior finishes and colour schemes.
  • Low-e silver films are used where conservation of interior heat is also important.

SuperTint Specialty Films

What Are Specialty Films?

Specialty films are like reproduction parts for really old cars (Kissels and Orients, for example) or obscure, single-purpose woodworking tools (such as tenon cutters or auger gimlets); not everyone needs them (most of us wouldn’t even know what they are!), but for those who do, they’re absolutely necessary.

What Types of Specialty Films Are Available?

SuperTint specialty films can be grouped into five general types:

  • Obscuring Films (Blackout and Whiteout) are intended to totally and completely block all vision through a window, unlike frosted films, which may only partially block visibility. Whiteout has 6% Visible Light Transmission (VLT), while Blackout has 0% VLT. They are used in high-security areas, warehouses, storage rooms, and other areas which are often messy in appearance and where a frosted film is not considered adequate.
  • Exterior film is quite similar in effect to SuperTint R-20 Silver, except it goes on the outside of the window, rather than the inside. It’s used where high levels of energy or light rejection are required but there is no interior access to the windows, or on triple-glazed or other windows where R-20 Silver film cannot be used.
  • UVClear is an absolutely clear, museum-grade film intended to block virtually all ultraviolet light without blocking any light of heat. It is commonly used in museums and art galleries where protection of the interior is paramount, but inward visibility is also required.
  • SuperTint coloured films are used for decorative effect, such as store signage, graphics, etc. They are available in red, green, yellow, and blue. Multiple layers can be applied to achieve special effects and different colours.

Big energy savings

Watch the numbers drop on those HVAC costs with SuperTint films. SuperTint films can keep out up to 86% of the sun’s heat, dramatically lowering air conditioning costs. In the winter, the same film helps retain interior heat, reducing heating costs. they may also help you attain LEED credits, getting your building closer to certification.

More comfortable work environment

SuperTint films also helps regulate the temperature disparity between the sunny and the shady areas of your building. Offices stay cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter, all of which makes your employees more comfortable.

Reduced glare

Glare causes eye fatigue and lower productivity. Drawing curtains or closing blinds is a claustrophobic approach at best, and it drives up the bill for artificial lighting. SuperTint films let in the light but not the glare, helping to maintain an ‘open’ feeling

Protecting from fading

the fading caused by the sun’s ultraviolet rays wreaks havoc on interior furnishings and merchandise, shortening their shelf life. SuperTint films screen almost 100% of those harmful rays, potentially saving thousands in replacement costs.

Increased safety

Splintered, flying glass is one of the dangerous consequences of, both natural and man-made, disasters. SuperTint films are specifically designed to gold broken glass in place, lessening the chance of injury and property damage. it also makes forced entry more difficult for would-be vandals and burglars, which is especially important for retail establishments.
